Hilton Head Plantation is a 4000 acre private residential community with two gated security entrances. Conveniently located near the library, hospital, churches, shopping, and restaurants. There are two nature conservancies. A garden area for "farmers". Bicycle and walking paths throughout the community. Dolphin Head Rec. Area has playground and picnic areas and walking paths.
There are two 18 hole public golf courses, and two private courses The Spring Lake Racket Club features 12 clay courts, pro shop, and lessons. There are several community pools.
